Todd Rundgren

Runt Album Studio Session

1969

By Michael Friedman

Todd was just 19 when Friedman managed his band, The Nazz, in Philadelphia and produced the first recording of Hello it’s Me.  When Friedman joined Albert Grossman Management he brought Todd with him and signed him as a producer and artist.  Friedman believes this may be the earliest photograph of Todd in a recording studio.

Runt was Todd’s debut solo LP for Ampex Records.  This was also Todd’s first album as a producer.  He later went on to produce albums for Hall and Oates, The Band, Meatloaf, Badfinger and Grand Funk, among others.
