Johnny Winter
Madison Square Garden
December 1969
By Michael Friedman
Johnny Winter got his first break when he met Mike Bloomfield from the Butterfield Blues Band and was invited to play onstage at the Fillmore East with Bloomfield and Al Kooper. This shot was taken at Madison Square Garden when Johnny joined Janis Joplin on stage. It was the year of Johnny’s first album on Columbia records where he reportedly received the largest advance in the history of the recording industry at that time - $600,000.
